There’s no doubt that one of the biggest questions across the UK right now is – how will my business be affected when the UK leaves the European Union?
Domains are the core of our business, so we’ve been keeping a close eye on the progress of Brexit and .eu domain names and what it means for our customers.
Here’s what we know so far:
Since the UK referendum in 2016, the European Commission have been planning how to manage .eu domains registered to individuals or businesses based in the UK. In line with the new exit date, we now know that UK residents will be ineligible to register or renew .eu domains from 19th October 2019. Read the statement from the European Commission for more details.
Have a .eu? Here’s what to do next…
With less than two months to go until we leave the EU, we’re encouraging all UK customers with a .eu domain, to act as soon as possible.
The first step is to find an alternative domain name to replace your existing .eu. Doing this will mean you’re prepared – even if things change or the leave date is moved again. Start your search by popping your domain name in our Domain Search tool to check which extensions are available.
Once you’ve chosen your alternative domain name, you’ll also need to move any other services you use with your .eu domain to your new domain. If you need help making the move, follow these handy guides.
Helping you prepare for the UK’s exit
In preparation of what’s to come, we’ve sent out a series of communications to our UK customers with a .eu domain name to help make the transition as smooth as possible.
We know it’s a confusing time and things are always subject to change, but we’re keeping a close eye on the situation and will keep you updated as soon as we know more. If you have any questions or would like more information about how we can help, please get in touch.
